What Spiritual Lessons Have You Learned?

Spiritual Lessons I Have Learned at Hope Health Center.

Dennis: I was checking in for my morning of volunteer work at Hope Health Center where I visit in the waiting room with patients and people who often come with them.  As I made brief contact with a man in the waiting room on the way to the receptionist, I thought to myself, “I think he is deaf.  Oh, my!  This is very intimidating and could be very uncomfortable for me.  So maybe I should politely ignore him.”  But as I turned around, I chose to step out in faith and approach the smiling older man.

The next thirty minutes of conversation has remained one of the highlights of my time at Hope Health.  My conversation starter was The Jesus Storybook Bible he was holding open in his hands.  Through his signing and attempts to speak and my charade-clues and both of us writing, we exchanged love for each other.

At the end of our conversation, he said how much he loved this children’s storybook Bible so I wrote a personal note in it and gave him the waiting room copy.  With tears in his eyes and an embrace for me, he left with his friend who had accompanied him.

Such a powerful reminder that God’s blessings are everywhere but too often go unclaimed until we step out of our comfort zone into a different world– into His world He came to save.

Cameron: I have learned firsthand about the immense power and value of being a constant witness for Christ.  I recall meeting with a patient who was participating in a faith-based rehabilitation program.  Although he was ailing during the appointment, his elation at the new direction his life was taking because of God’s love was truly inspiring.

Bill: All of us are broken in some way.  The brokenness some people experience, like living in poverty, is just more visible.  Others tend to be pretty good at hiding their brokenness.  Regardless, Jesus is the answer to brokenness.

Kaitlin:  I have learned so much more about God’s children and just how differently and uniquely He has made us.  The Lord has reminded me that with Him, we are all one Body and that there is an eternal family awaiting us.
